I had settled in for a while exploring the countryside around Duffryn Farm, Pontlottyn, as my photo collection testifies! Taking a more panoramic view of the line from high above the road opposite the farm, at 12.00 37405 passes with the 2R18 10.59 Cardiff Central to Rhymney service, threading its way through the fields and trees on the uphill climb to the terminus. The scenery in the valleys can actually be very bucolic and rural in appearance, despite the equally unattractive eyesores that can prevail, thanks to an intensive industrial past. To me that is what makes exploring the railways of South Wales so appealing, and photography challenging.
