17th Sept 2005 - Rhymney branch, Gwent
37411 looks spick and span in BR green, as it pauses briefly at Caerphilly at 12.00 on the 2F22 11.14 Rymney to Cardiff Central train. It would later receive the name "Caerphilly Castle/Castellated Caerphilly" in November 2005. Having been treated to this special retro paint scheme you could have been forgiven for thinking that the engine had a bright future. Sadly not. It was scrapped in Rotherham in 2013, but a bit of it was saved. I came face to face with this engine whilst visiting the Alexandra Hotel in Derby, where one of its cabs sits rather forlornly in the beer garden! A bit like a trophy head, much like the same gruesome manner in which a hunter displays its prey after a shoot!
