17th Sept 2005 - Rhymney branch, Gwent
(1) It's more or less uphill to Rhymney from Cardiff, so you can imagine the sound of 37425, in its smart large logo livery, as the power is applied to haul the rake of ex-Virgin Mark IIs away from the stop at Pontlottyn. It's 10.00 and this is the 2R10 08.59 Cardiff Central to Rhymney service. The acoustics were amazing, the roar of the engine amplified by the valley sides. Another big reason to be here to witness the spectacle. My shot was taken from a derelict factory site, demolished but an ideal vantage point to get this side-on view.
