Once the A35 Axminster bypass had been built a new vantage point was provided for your intrepid photographer! I had to park the car by a field entrance further up the new road, and watch the traffic, but the view was worth it.
Here is 47711, formerly "Greyfriars Bobby" when it was allocated to Edinburgh Haymarket depot, to work the intensive push-pull shuttles between Edinburgh and Glasgow. But now it has come south for a change of scenery! It's leaving Axminster on the 12.55 London Waterloo to Exeter St. Davids, passing through the parapets of the former Lyme Regis branch. The days of loco-hauled trains on this route were drawing to a close.
