1st June 1986

Viewed from the Whitford Road near Kilmington is an unidentified Class 50 plus a mix of 6 Mark I and Mark II coaches, heading along the Axe Valley with the 14.10 Penzance to London Waterloo train. The train is at the point, more-or-less, where the Axminster East Junction is now located, the eastern end of the 3-mile dynamic loop now in place. Back in the 1980s none of us imagined that double track would ever be reinstated on this line, especially at Axminster!
