Reading, Berkshire
Reading has always been a train spotters top destination, although since its transformation in recent times it is probably less so. But back "in the day" you could quite happily spend a day sat at the country end of platform 5, legs dangling off the end of the platform where the track had been taken away, and fill your book with dozen upon dozen of loco numbers. My brother and I would often spend time at Burnham station, near Slough, where our grandparents lived, but occasionally we would be allowed to catch a local DMU to Reading, where we could also see the cross country services arrive and depart, thus adding to the list of loco numbers! They were very happy days, a long way from the world we live in now.
