24th July 1992

The lovely summer evening sun made up for the deplorable state of the locomotive! Former Scottish "Shove Duff" Class 47/7 no. 47706 powers out of Axminster with the 17.05 London Waterloo to Exeter St. Davids. The Scottish heritage of the loco (formerly named "Strathclyde") is given away by the appearance of Eastfield's "Westie" dog on the bodyside, and the remains of the ScotRail livery.
Haymaking is in progress (notice the farm workers head just above the cab!). Luscious Devon countryside: as far away as you can imagine from the pounding this loco would have had running 100mph push-pull trains between Edinburgh and Glasgow!
