Class 142 DMU no. 142021 waits at the one remaining platform in use at Barnstaple. This is the 16.37 departure for Exeter Central. The mechanical signalling remains - just! We are actually looking towards Bideford, but this section of the route has been closed for some time already. The impressive bracket signal will be controlling movements for locomotives that need to run around their stock. The life of the Class 142 "Pacers" on the mainline are just about over (2020), and 142021 has been scrapped.
