The coal industry is much depleted at Milford Junction, with the closure of the very young Gascoigne Wood coal mine and its subsequent demolition. So much rail traffic was once sourced from that huge complex.
This is what is left, the small staging sidings at Monk Fryston, or more precisely, Milford West Sidings. Some coal traffic is still handled, but now it's imported. At 11.20 DB Cargo (ex-EWS) Class 66 no. 66087 is waiting time to depart on the 4S93 11.23 Milford West Sidings to Hunterston empty coal, made up of EWS-branded HTA hoppers. There is a rake of those impressive Drax biomass hoppers in the background.
