10th April 2012

13 years have passed since my previous visit to this location, so the opportunity to stop off for a while to observe the changes was too good a moment to miss. The inevitable line side growth has taken place, but at the time of my visit there was still a good amount of traffic.
GBRf Class 66 no. 66728 "Institution of Railway Operators" is passing Milford at 10.56 working the 6F12 Tyne Dock to Cottam Power Station, the coal being loaded in ex-Fast Line IIA coal hoppers. By this time of course coal mining at Gascoigne Wood had long-finished (2004). Incredible, it was the most modern mine in the whole of Europe when it was opened in the early '80s.
