7th July 1999

Two-train meets in Newport station usually occurred everytime I was there. At 11.36 heading away from me is EWS Class 37 no. 37706 with a string of EWS branded MEA and MBA wagons. It is about to pass EWS Class 60 no. 60051 on another Llanwern to Port Talbot empty iron ore train. The iron ore trains were as familiar to this route as anything else, there being a constant procession back and forth between the two points. But it all came to an end sadly, although Llanwern continues to roll steel, which has to be brought in from Port Talbot.
