(1) In preparation for the 19-day shut down of the ex-GWR main line at Whiteball Tunnel a daily route learner has been running from Westbury to Exeter and back and this is only the second occasion I have had the chance to see it. It's the forth week of running as well!
On the return trip, and in a very slight drizzle, DB Cargo Class 66 no. 66091, still in original (and drab) EWS livery, slowly runs through the loop at 13.03, 29 minutes late. This is 0Z28 11.34 Exeter Riverside N. Y. to Westbury Down T. C. It had been held at Pinhoe due to a late running London service from Exeter. It will barely stop before continuing eastwards, but thanks to pathing time it will only be 9 minutes down as it leaves.
The reason for entering the loop is clear as the SWR service 1L25 10.20 London Waterloo to Exeter St. Davids disappears away on to the next stop at Axminster. The trailing unit was 159105.
There was a Balfour Beatty tamper in the milk siding too, so a busy moment for this quiet backwater!
