Happy New Year! I rarely find myself taking pictures on the first day of the year, but with this being the first sunny day of the Christmas and New Year holiday today I managed to sneak out to catch a couple of local services.
This is the view from Axe Gates, looking eastwards towards Broom gates, and the new multi-million pound concrete culvert that was installed between September and November 2018 has changed this view forever. This should alleviate the problems with flooding at this location, but why only provide room for a single line? Surely the commonsense approach would have been to allow for future doubling of the line here?
At 14.00 two South Western Railway Class 159s, lead by 159103, cross the culvert on the 1L29 11.15 London Waterloo to Exeter St. Davids service.
