One of the original Western "namers", Class 47/4 no. 47623 "Vulcan" is stabled on Bath Road. Whilst generally '47s were never our favourite engines as young spotters, this special group of Western Region-based '47s were different and I was always pleased to see them. Before being converted to an ETH (Electrics Train Heat" loco, it carried the number 47090. It is still with us, as of 2022, now in the guise of no. 47843 and working for the Rail Operations Group.
