23rd Dec 1983

33027 "Earl Mountbatten of Burma" rolls through the station southwards light engine, probably running around after bringing in a train from the south coast. This Class 33 was a bit of a celebrity, along with 33056 "Burma Star", the two locos being used to haul the funeral train of Mountbatten from London to Romsey in September 1979.
Surprisingly to me, 33027 was not preserved, meeting its end at Eastleigh works in 1992.
