27th Feb 2006 - West Highland Line & Mallaig Extension
Sleepless in Fort William! It's not so late, but late enough for a long exposure at the station. Provia 100F, f8 @ 4 seconds. At 18.00 all is quiet with EWS Class 37/4 no. 37416 stabled with the Scotrail sleeper train, ready for the later departure as the 19.55 Fort William to London Euston overnight service. The “tractor” wears the Royal Scotsman maroon livery, a train it no longer works. A quiet word with the station staff gave me permission to take some time exposure shots.

At Edinburgh the train will combine with portions from Glasgow Aberdeen and Inverness. Class 37s were soon to bow out on these trains, replaced by the more modern Class 67s, so this was my last chance to capture these trains with classic traction in charge.
