Scotrail Class 156 DMU set no. 156478 is waiting in the sunshine, although there is definitely no warmth in it, and as I recall there were sudden flurries of the white stuff on and off during my brief visit. In fact, I even watched a snow storm seem to develop all of a sudden and rush in off the Sound of Sleat. What an appropriate name for the stretch of water! The obligatory walk around the fishing village to fill in time and then it's back on board and into the cosy interior. Never before has a second generation DMU been so inviting!

At 15.50 the 16.00 Mallaig to Glasgow Queen Street waits for departure.
