18th April 1989

Pioneer Class 59 no, 59001 "Yeoman Endeavour" arrives at Westbury with a Foster Yeoman Merehead to Theale stone train. The train is made up of a rake of aluminium-bodied PHA hopper wagons, a short-lived experiment in maximising payload by reducing overall weight of the vehicles. But unfortunately the bodies became easily distorted and unsuitable for the traffic and the bodies were removed in 1989 and scrapped. I guess the underframes and running gear were reused.
