(1) 47901 - the "body snatcher"! This locomotive was a one-off.
Originally just plain-old 47046, after being damaged in an accident it was chosen to become a test-bed unit for new engines. First off, to test the Ruston power unit for the Class 56 it became no. 47601. Then, with the Class 58 under development, it was fitted with another new power plant and gained the identity 47901. It found work based off Westbury operating stone trains out of Merehead and Whatley. This train is one such typical stone train, a Foster Yeoman service of empty 4 wheel hoppers heading back to Merehead, stopped briefly in the station for a crew change.
47901 was doomed to be withdrawn eventually, due to its one-off status, and finally met its maker at MC Metals Glasgow in 1992.
