Class 33 no. 33018 on route 89 - a Portsmouth Harbour to Cardiff Central service - standing in the station waiting for the "off". Replacing the Class 31s on these trains, the "Cromptons" would in turn hand over to the next generation - the dreaded "Sprinters"!

This locomotive was withdrawn from service 5 months after this shot was taken, and was sent to MOD Moreton-in-Marsh as a training loco for the fire department. Luckily it went on to be preserved and is currently under restoration.
