Westbury, Wiltshire

This station is at a crossroads with the Bristol to Portsmouth, via Salisbury, route. It's also a major freight centre for many Somerset quarry stone trains. I have spent many, many times visiting and photographing at this location since the 1980s, being a relatively short distance from home. But it is all in the timing, as some parts of the day offer hardly any freight activity at all. As well as the station itself, which offers many good views, there are the various junctions around the immediate area, where the avoiding line, and the north-south route all join and/or cross over.under each other. I have dealt with Fairwood Junction in a separate gallery within this portfolio group.
