(7) At 13.35 the Pathfinder Railtour special, the "Cambrian Coast Express", 1Z30 05.39 Bristol Temple Meads to Pwllheli, crosses Pont Briwet, the wooden trestle bridge that spans the River Dwyryd, which at the time was a dual road and rail bridge, road users paying a toll. Network Rail Class 97s (37s) nos. 97304 "John Tiley" and 97303 lead the train.
Things were not looking good for this bridge as it was in very poor condition so a replacement road and rail bridge was being built alongside it. The plan was to retain the wooden bridge for use by pedestrians but the building work caused further damage so it had to eventually be demolished. Originally built in 1867 it was rebuilt by the Great Western Railway in 1932 but sadly time had caught up with by now. What a great shame.
