Yeovil Pen Mill, Somerset

I suppose Pen Mill is the lesser known station in Yeovil, situated as it is on a secondary route from Westbury to Weymouth. It has the unusual feature of a platform with two platform faces, not common in the UK. I can only think of Ulverston in Cumbria as another example. But there could be others. There is a link between Pen Mill and Junction station, but this only opened in 1943 in order to increase flexibilty should there be a need to divert services during the war. It has since proven to be essential when the GWR mainline is out of service between Exeter and Taunton, and services are diverted over the Southern route. And now there is a regular passnger service running at selected times as well.
