WHISTLERS AT WHITEBALL!
This is what I came out for - double-headed Class 40s heading into Devon! The first visit of a Class 40 to Devon since 2009 (40145) and the first time for double-headed "Forties" in the west since 1984!! Today we have the wonderful sight, and sound, of 40013 "Andania" (D213) and 40145 (D345) resplendent in BR green. Mind you, the formation of InterCity-liveried Mark IIIs and Class 47 no. 47828 on the rear, is a bit at odds with the retro scheme of the locos.

Heavily delayed by flooding at Flax Bourton (For a while I was worried that the train might have been "caped" in Bristol), the Locomotive Services Limited railtour, "The Devonian Double", bursts out of Whiteball Tunnel at 13.10 running as 1Z40 06.25 Preston to Plymouth. The train is 67 down, so arrived at Plymouth at least an hour after scheduled time. But the rail-tourers still got their two hours of fun in Plymouth as the return train departed an hour later than planned, and eventually got back to Preston only around 15 late.
