GATX #96500 is an enormous "whale belly" tank car running on 4 trucks. With a 60,000 gallon capacity it sounds like this was a case of perhaps thinking a bit too big as at 97 ft long it could not negotiate many curves safely. Built to carry anhydrous ammonia in 1965 it was retired and donated to the museum in 1971. But it's claim to fame is being the world's largest tank car!
