Newton Abbot really was a wonderful station back in the 1980s, and before. It had the most impressive mechanical signalling and two huge wooden signal boxes either end of the station. Newton Abbot West, just seen to the right here, was the smaller of the two. The truly wonderful signal gantry was a sight to behold. It was obviously appreciated by others too, as after the re-signalling of the station the gantry was relocated at the entrance to the David & Charles publishing offices over to the left. D&C have gone but I believe that the gantry still stands there.
This HST set, with W43185 trailing here, is forming the 15.30 Newton Abbot to Paignton local. It was lead by W43186 and I'll catch up with the set at Paignton later...
