Virgin West Coast "Pendolino" no. 390123 "Virgin Glory" shoots through the former mainline platforms at 16.04 on the 9M84 14.00 Glasgow Central to London Euston services.

Opened in 1846 Carnforth station was enlarged in the 1870s. The main line platforms were taken out of use in May 1970 when the local stopping services on the WCML ended. The station was designed by Sir William Tite, a man better known for the buildings on the former London & South Western Railway. My local station, Axminster, was designed by him, as were most others on the line from Waterloo to Exeter.
