(1) With Carnforth no longer being a station served by the West Coast Main Line and its subsequent loss of mainline platforms, plus the overhead catenary, I find shooting trains here incredibly challenging. But, with a little creativity, and much cropping (!), some good results can be had.
At 15.55 Direct Rail Services Class 66 no. 66425 leads the 6K27 14.43 Carlisle Yard to Crewe (MWFO) engineers train through the station on the up line. The train is mostly made up of "Salmon" bogie flats carrying rail, giving the impression of a "bare table" train, that is, empty! The low winter sun adds some dramatic light.
