11th May 2014

Photographed at 16.50 DB (EWS) Class 66 no. 66230 is slowly descending the bank with its rail train, the train having been parked up near Colhayne Lane and the loco shut down and stabled at Seaton Junction for most of the day. It will slow to a stop here awaiting permission to proceed back to Eastleigh at some point later. There is a bit of a scrapyard on the land to the right of the track, an unsightly mess on what were once the milk sidings. And all that tree growth around the station is a great shame - my pictures from the 1990s, and earlier, show a wide, unhindered view of the old station and the sweeping curve of Honiton Incline, a much more pleasing prospect than today.
66230 is currently (2020) in store with an uncertain future after being involved in a serious crash, and subsequent fire, at Dollands Moor in September 2018.
