10th April 1991

For a few years in the early '90s there was a weekly train of household coal from Radyr Yard in South Wales, to Exmouth Junction Coal Concentration Depot. The train ran via Yeovil Junction, where there was also a small coal depot, and some wagons were dropped off there too, hence its routing via the Southern route. From Exmouth Junction the train would then head back to South Wales via Taunton. It was a real bonus for train watchers on this line, as freight was a rare event since the end of the daily Meldon Quarry trains a few years before. To make things even more interesting, the train would produce a Class 37! Here is 37248 heading 6C34 Radyr to Exmouth Junction, formed of 4-wheel HEA wagons, heading through the station.
