From time to time the Southern route is used for diversions off the Western, if there engineering works on that route. Demonstrating this perfectly is 47586 heading a Plymouth to Manchester Piccadilly service through the station, as viewed from the Colyton road bridge at the east end. The line was closed at Cowley Bridge, Exeter, hence the diversions. The train will probably take the line towards Castle Cary, at Yeovil Junction, and make its way up towards Bath and Bristol from Westbury. The loco seems to be halfway through a repaint into large logo livery!
