19th Nov 1992 - Northallerton & the Redmire Branch, North Yorkshire
There was a complex series of shunting moves necessary once the empties had arrived, involving marshalling the empties into the inclined sidings on the right so that they could loaded from the top loader by gravity, one by one. The loaded wagons were at the furthest end of the sidings, i.e. at the bottom, and the locomotive would have to drag out at least two sets, I think, and then couple them up ready for the return loads. Added into the mix was the requirement to add on a brake van, as this was necessary for the train guard who had to close the many level crossing gates on the way back to Northallerton! It was all fun to watch and demonstrated the skill of the railmen. 60052 "Goat Fell" is half way through the task.
