(10) The secondman has alighted from 60059 "Samuel Plimsoll" at the former Wensley station to open the level crossing gates, typical North Eastern-style with the gates running on wheels. This is the view from the cab during my trip down the branch to Bedale. The guard, travelling in the brake van at the rear, would close the gates once the train was clear. The method saved time, but still meant that the progress along the branch was slow!
