16th June 1992 - Northallerton & the Redmire Branch, North Yorkshire
(7) A complex routine of wagon shuffling proceeded soon after arrival of the empty train. Wagons were eventually placed in the two sidings on the right, from where they would be allowed to run by gravity to the loader, and when full, dropped further down to a holding point, from where they would be collected by the train locomotive and assembled into the return loaded service to Redcar. The brake van was included in the train to carry the guard, who closed the many level crossing gates on the branch as the train proceeded, saving a lot of time, and exercise, for the train crew! Here it is seen waiting to be attached to the return train. It has been allowed to free-wheel to this point from the far end of the line, whilst 60059 "Samuel Plimsoll" returned to the task of building the train.
