28th May 2009 - Aberdeen Main Line (Perth to Aberdeen, via Dundee, Arbroath & Montrose).
Montrose Viaduct at 16.21, and EWS Class 66 no. 66201 takes the 6D83 T/ThO 16.11 Laurencekirk to Mossend china clay train over the Montrose Basin. I had seen this train earlier in the afternoon, at Laurencekirk, where it was deposited by 66126 in the freight loop. 66201 must have been sent north light engine to collect this train. It makes a very impressive sight as it crossed high over the water, and this was probably the shot of the day for me! The train is made up of 7 x Ermawa-owned ICA bogie tank wagons.

The single track Montrose Viaduct was built by the North British Railway and opened in 1881. It comprises of 17 brick-built spans, is on a curve, and rises at a gradient of 1 in 88.

The locomotive, 66201, was later sent to France to work, so I doubt it'll be seen in Scotland again!
