18th Jan 1989 - West Highland Line & Mallaig Extension
The reign of the English Electric Class 37 is almost over on the West Highland Line, so I took what I expected a last trip to the line to sample the sights and sounds that only these locomotives can provide. But the weather was really quite awful, so my memories of the visit was not just the sights and sounds, but the rain and wind - fitting I suppose for the wet wets coast! Shortly after arriving at Fort William on the 1Y01 05.50 Glasgow Queen Street to Fort William service, Class 37/4 no. 37404 "Ben Cruachan" stands alongside the station, where it will stable for a while, returning to Glasgow on the 1T34 14.45 return to Glasgow.
