Rochdale, Greater Manchester, has changed much since my photos from 1996 were taken. The Oldham loop line has been converted to light rail used by Metrolink Trams, but the heavy rail service over Summit to Todmorden and beyond is still in use.
Class 142 DMU no. 142043 wears the BR Provincial livery and is sitting in the bay at the north end of the station having arrived at 13.25 on a service from Manchester Victoria, I'm guessing via Oldham. This unit, at the time of writing in 2025, has been transferred to Kingstanding Police Training Centre in north Birmingham!
