With the oil sidings and goods yard in the foreground, Class 47 no. 47339 is heading away towards Popham No. 1 tunnel at 11.10 with a northbound freight working comprising just two VGA vans. It looks rather diminutive in this wide-angle scene. The character of the environs of Micheldever Station are plainly seen, the north end being enclosed in wooded hills with the tunnel beckoning trains into its darkness.
