14th June 1994

(1) At the time there was a twice-weekly oil train booked to arrive at the oil depot on Tuesdays and Thursdays. But this traffic was due to end soon, so I was determined to capture it for posterity before it finished running. The day I chose was a lovely warm and sunny early summer's day, making the experience all the more pleasant. The train arrived form West Wales in the early hours at 06.15, working as the 23.15 Waterston to Micheldever. The locomotive dropped the rake of loaded oil wagons in the sidings and then ran light engine to Eastleigh, for servicing, etc. It would then return sometime between 12.00 and 13.00, marshal the train and work the 14.23 Micheldever to Waterston return empties.
So, today here we have 60092 "Reginald Munns", having arrived from Eastleigh at 12.30 and now running in to the yard to collect the 14 "Elf" TEA bogie oil tanks, having been emptied during the morning.
