South Wales Mainline, Newport to Cardiff

Now electrified, this four track main line is a fairly straight and level route through some fairly ordinary scenery. Nevertheless there are a number of bridges that give good views in both directions, and I have visited these a number of times over the years. Now the masts are up it's a whole lot different! In between trains I would take refreshments at the Six Bells Inn, Peterstone, a very pleasant watering hole in a tucked-away location near the railway. Sadly, I think it has since closed.
