Heading westwards at Salford Crescent station, Class 142 no. 142045 is working the 14.30 Manchester Victoria to Kirby service. Salford Crescent is a new station, opened by British Rail in 1987. It lies just short of the junction at Windsor Bridge Junction where the lines divided to head to Bolton and Wigan. Manchester North Signalling Centre was located here until 2015, and the line has since been electrified and the station substantially expanded.
I have tried to identify the building in the background it seems to be some kind of electricity substation. Agecroft Power Station was situated a little further north from here, at Pendleton.
