18th March 1996

I never knew it at the time but looking at this photo now there is so much of interest to see. Viewed from where Victoria West Junction is located, Class 150 no. 150137 heads away into the distance on the 14.01 Manchester Victoria to Liverpool service. It is passing the site of Manchester Exchange station, and just to its right is the Deal Street signal box which closed in 1998. That lattice iron bridge on the left was once Exchange station's footbridge. Dominating the skyline to the right is the former Threlfalls Brewery in Salford. Grade II listed and built in 1896, brewing at this site ceased in 1988. The building is now known as the Deva Centre, an urban business hub, plus some residential accommodation. As I said, so much to see!
