There were another 3 years to go before the railway operated its first train, but for effect this Ruston 4wDM "88DS" model diesel shunter is stabled in the station with some coaching stock. The railway's No. 1 "Merry Tom", at the current time of writing, in 2021, the loco is laid up with a very doubtful future as it has been deemed beyond repair. It started out in life in 1949 as Ruston's works no. 275886. It was bought by the British Electric Authority and operated as their "No. 2" at Birchills Power Station, Walsall.
