(2) ....bump, bump, bump, bump....DB Cargo Class 66 no. 66103 has a distinct wheel flat as it heads towards Seaton Junction, passing Umborne at 12.19, working the 0Z28 11.34 Exeter Riverside N. Y. to Westbury Down T. C. route learner. The tidy embankment and River Axe in the foreground make for a pleasant view on an otherwise very overgrown stretch of railway.
These route learners have been running for over a month now, Monday to Friday, bringing the bonus sight of locomotives to the route everyday, albeit light engines. Breaks up the regularity of SWR Class 159s! 66103 is the third RETB-fitted loco to be used on this diagram, the others being 66101 and 66107. The lush East Devon countryside is a long way off from their once-normal stomping ground of the Far North and West Highland lines of Scotland!
Despite the obvious wheel flat I was surprised to learn that after arriving at Westbury the '66 was then hired to Colas Rail Freight that afternoon, to work an engineers' service to Lostwithiel, Cornwall!
