Honiton Incline, Devon
Always a fairly wooded section of line, there were still a few nice locations along the incline where decent views could be taken of trains, either west or eastbound. Nowadays the route is very heavily overgrown, to the extent that many of the former locations no longer offer anything to the budding railway photographer. Even the line immediately west of Seaton Junction, where the climb starts and the line is on a high embankment, has been closed in by tree growth in most areas. I spent many of my spare days taking pictures around this area, mainly during the late '80s and into the '90s, when the "Fifties" were eking out their last days on the Waterloo to Exeters. There were even the occasional freights! I will always have good memories of bright and sunny summer days shooting Class 50s and 33s along the Axe Valley.
