A lucky and welcome break in the clouds pours warm autumn sunshine onto new GWR Class 800/3 Hitachi unit no. 800304 as it slowly approaches Standish Junction at 13.01. The 1L58 12.36 Cheltenham Spa to London Paddington will head down the Golden Valley Line to Swindon, and then onto London under the wires. This is my first shot of a Hitachi unit in revenue earning service. Previously, of course, this train would have been operated by an HST.
