31st July 1984

The first down train of the day, the 09.00 Leeds to Carlisle, pulls into Appleby station from the south, with 47231 doing the honours. My view of the train is from the station footbridge. The station buildings are all of the classic S&C Midland Railway heritage, and it is pleasing to note that they are still standing today, as are many station buildings in the route. Most are in private hands, but Appleby station is still used for the purpose originally intended.
