9th April 2005

Having arrived light engines from Salisbury, at 13.45 Class 37s no’s. 37406 “The Saltire Society “ and 37401 “The Royal Scotsman” wait patiently in the sun for “The Solent Syphons” railtour to arrive. They worked the train to Salisbury, where a top and tail formation of Class 57 and 60 took over for a tour of the Southampton area, before continuing on to Weymouth.
I remember that I had a bit of an altercation with an over-zealous station employee who took exception to me standing on the wrong side of the yellow line on the platform behind the buffer stop whilst observing the locos, which were stationery and switched off at the time. Words were exchanged but no apology was given for his excessive rudeness. Tainted an otherwise very enjoyable day!
The 37s took the train back north, via Maiden Newton and Chetnole, where I caught up with them for more photos.
