A curiosity that was seen at Maiden Newton at this time was this Wickham railcar, used by the p-way department. No. 68007 was built by D. Wickham & Co. Ltd., Ware, Hertfordshire, in 1956. and although I am not certain for how long this railcar was based at Maiden Newton, it was eventually preserved and can currently be found at the Didcot Railway Centre. It is seen here parked-up in what must have once been the loading bay for horses, perhaps? The short siding was in effect the head shunt for a siding that still remained here at this time, running parallel to the mainline almost to the end of the loop.
