There have been quite a few railtours over this route, the main appeal being the seaside resort at Weymouth of course. EWS 37406 "The Saltire Society" and 37401 "The Royal Scotsman" (in the darker maroon colours of that train) are working the return Pathfinder Tour "The Solent Syphons", 1Z38 15.52 Weymouth to Derby. They are arriving, to cross with a south-bound Class 150 to Weymouth.
The train set off from Derby in the morning behind these two Scottish-based locos, and went as far as far as Salisbury, via Oxford and Basingstoke, where the 37s were removed and replaced by a top and tail combination of a Class 57 and 60, which took the train to Weymouth, via Southampton. I shot the train arriving there, where the 37s had arrived light engine to take the tour back via the Westbury route. The Class 57/60 returned to Eastleigh light engines, passing me at the Morrisons filling station, where I had stopped to top-up before heading up to Maiden Newton.
It looks to have been a good day trip for everyone, and a good account of it can be found on the www.sixbellsjunction.co.uk website.
